'It's very good jam,' said the Queen.
'Well, I don't want any TO-DAY, at any rate.'
'You couldn't have it if you DID want it,' the Queen said. 'The rule is, jam to-morrow and jam yesterday--but never jam to-day.'
'It MUST come sometimes to "jam to-day,"' Alice objected.
'No, it can't,' said the Queen. 'It's jam every OTHER day: to-day isn't any OTHER day, you know.'
'I don't understand you,' said Alice. 'It's dreadfully confusing!'
'That's the effect of living backwards,' the Queen said kindly: 'it always makes one a little giddy at first--'
'Living backwards!' Alice repeated in great astonishment. 'Inever heard of such a thing!'
'--but there's one great advantage in it, that one's memory works both ways.'
'I'm sure MINE only works one way,' Alice remarked. 'I can't remember things before they happen.'
'It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards,' the Queen remarked.

Life is...
"Life is a chainreaction."
"Life is a series of fortunate events, of which some may appear unfortunate at the time being."
"Life is learning to hold on to yourself, before holding on the someone / something else."
"Life is letting go of the past, living the present and creating the future."
"I go forward in life by walking backwards, that is why I only see the past, forget to enjoy the present and don't see any future."

666
Oh noes! The shock! The horror! Today is 6/6/6.
In the New Testament, Revelation 13:16-18 states:
"Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell who does not have the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom: let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number. Its number is six hundred and sixty-six."
So there you have it, number of the beast. Western societies commonly see it as the number of the Devil. So will we face the Devil's wrath today and enter a new dark era? Ha! Well the sun is shining over here, so I have my sincere doubts :D
Anyhow, we use the Gregorian calendar, which was starting to be implemented in the 16th century. The Bible however was, let's say, written a few years ahead of that. On top of that the new calendar system is filled with flaws. Check the link for extensive information. So even if 666 was meant to be a date, it would not be today.
The plot thickens...
Now let's have a look at this thing called the Devil. It is mentioned in the Bible as a fallen angel. Christianity used a mindset of duality: good and evil, God & the Devil. What they didn't tell you is the reason they did this: it was to control people by scaring them of all evil, the Devil and Hell. This was a walk in the park to do in that period of time. Nowadays, Christianity has lost it's control to some extent, fortunately.
666, Devil, today? I don't think so ;)

The one about the shoe

On a sunny afternoon, a few summers ago, we met for the first time. It was one of those moments when you get that gutfeeling telling you that at that very moment you are at the right place, at the right time. It was love at first sight, we immediatly knew it was meant to be, and we were a perfect fit.
As with any new shoe, there is this time you are accomodating to eachother. And then suddenly, out of the blue, you hit that sweetspot: your shoe and you have become one. They fit perfectly, and when you slip them around your feet, it feels like coming home from a long and hard day at work. When that moment hits, the shoe is no more. It has become a part of your body, it's not a seperate entity any longer. The shoe and you have become one.
As with any new shoe, there are some strings attached. Without them your shoe and you cannot tie together as they should. Those are the nuts and bolts of life, they are there and it might bother you at the beginning, but you get used to it fairly quickly.
This is where our journey began. It's a remarkable journey, for it has no end. Because while time passes, memories are created. Memories do no fade, they are you history, and your future at the same time.
Without that shoe, I wouldn't be where I am right now, and nothing would have been the same. Without that shoe, the road ahead of me would not be the road I see now.
We've come a long way, we had some very fun and amusing moments, but along with that came the hard and difficult moments. It is ying and yang. You can't have one without the other.
We've come a long way, we travelled around the world, having the time of my life. It was also one of those moments the same gutfeeling surfaced again, telling me I was at the right place, at the right time. Those are the moments when you are experiencing heaven on earth, and feel the divine intervention.
We've come a long way, as you can see on the picture. Time goes by, years pass, roads and hills are conquered. Thousands of miles are walked, run and even rested. This comes at a price. While you are having the time of your life, the sole of your shoe starts to wear. It is key to recognise this, for it is of the upmost importance. The shoe needs to be taken care of, you have to prevent the wear. This is where I failed. As you can see, a gaping hole was created. Can it be fixed? I do not know.
As time goes by, and as things are looking now, I will probably wear them less and less. This is where the shoe and you get seperated. You do not know what to do, or where to go, for you have lost your guidance, your road, your past and your future all at once. This very moment will be engraved in your brain, never to be erased again.

Life is... being dependant
It just struck me in a moment of enlightenment that our earthly life here is nothing more then being dependant on just about anything. Love, food, water, emotions and, ofcourse, chocolate :p Imagine anything, I bet you're reality depends on it. Spiritual writings tell us that this is not the meaning of life, it is the experiences we have and share that causes the evolution of our soul. That sounds very exciting in theory, despite the fact that reality is only what we make of it. And sophisticated monkeys as we are, that reality seemingly is a far cry from the theory.
Come to think of it, I truly admire and even envy the independant life style of a master Monk. If I would have to describe the meaning of freedom, I would only need one word. Monk. Only those true masters of life, and love, are strong enough to endure a life without any dependency. Stories of Monks sitting under a tree, months on end, meditating their minds into esoteric paradise, having merely enough nutrition to keep their physical bodies alive, are not unheard of.
Spiritual aficionado's would like us to believe a "Shift" in conciousness is looming. There is a lot of buzz in that community around the year 2012. As far as I know, that number arose from the Mayan calendar. I'm not sure about the specifics, but as I recall, certain planets would align on a date set somewhere in 2012, which would mark the end of life as we know it, and begin a new era. This doesn't mean the world will end, but we would awaken, and see the Light! ;) The problem to me is there are as many theories as there are articles you can read about it. Consistency isn't something you will find in the countless esoteric books.
I'm willing to believe, but I'm the kind of person which is naive on the one hand, but also very hard to convince on the other. Although at this point I've seen that much material that I conclude that probably, the physical body / life isn't everything there's to it. Then again when reading the articles and books I try to imagine the psychological reason for expressing or even having those thoughts. If you are someone who's fed up with how this world works (count me in) it is an easy way out to believe there's more to "life" then this. What if there isn't?
A looming shift in conciousness is a posibility, but the world staying the shitty place it is now, unfortunately is one too. Here's hoping for the former, guess I'll better start lighting candles and pray as if my life depends on it.
As such the truth remains to be uncovered, and as a wise man repeatedly said, "The truth is out there".
PS: If you are interested in any of this, I highly recommend:
* Anything by David Icke (http://www.davidicke.com). His lectures are phenomenal and you won't be bored for even a second, he's a magnificent speaker (also available on DVD).
* The trilogy "Conversations with God" by Neale Donald Walsch.
* "The Holographic Universe" by Michael Talbot. (my favorite book by far)
* Books by Brian Weiss. He's an MD with alot of interesting anecdotes and experience around hypnotism, reincarnation, past life regression, and the likes from a professional point of view.

Quote of the day
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.'
- Alice in Wonderland
While we are on the subject of cartoon quotes, this remarkable one has quite some content to it.
As far as I'm concerned, Alice in Wonderland is the best cartoon Disney has ever produced. It's unconventional style, story and color palette appeal to me.
Let's have a look at what is in the quote. "We're all mad here", that might refer to beings in Wonderland, but I think this can perfectly apply to our world too, and was probably even the 'hidden message' . When you think about it, how could one person determine if another person was mad? Because the other person might think likewise! So who is mad?
The same goes for the concept of right and wrong. Right or wrong is totally dependent on time, space and several other factors. Thousands of years ago people would think it was right to crucify "bad people". I don't think anyone in his right mind still thinks this way. In fact my personal opinion is that you should not kill anyone for what (s)he has done, who are we to judge? Who are we to decide over another man's life?
A similar example can be given about the space factor. While in some countries it is considered right to marry someone off, this is not the case in a whole lot of other places around the world.
In the end, what it all boils down to: Everything is relative.

Quote of the day
"It's hard to believe things you can't understand"
This is a quote from an episode of the X-Files. Being a fan of the series, this quote caught my attention when watching.
Having some weird questions to myself, this quote had quite an interesting answer to them. Maybe it helps solve your own questions ;)
In the future i'll try to somewhat regularly put up a "Quote of the day" along with my reflections on it.
